| THE OCEAN SEA is Cantabile 2’s
innovative stage adaptation of Alessandro Baricco’s
novel of the same name. A fascinating story inspired
by the frigate Medusa’s tragic sinking in 1816,
where 150 starving cadets resorted to murder and cannibalism
in their futile struggle for survival.
The audience is invited along to an old resort by an
abandoned coast. The seven hotel guests meet here –
two are survivors from the Medusa shipwreck. There is
a well-renowned portrait painter, an eccentric professor,
a timid girl, a beautiful femme fatale, a priest and
a young man thirsting for revenge. Their stories intertwine
during their stay at the resort, and all of them are
transformed forever.
OCEAN SEA is an intense work, where classical storytelling
is united with minimalist performance and physical theater,
as well as a visual performance with Cantabile 2’s
characteristic imagery and sweeping sensuality.
